Each day in Door County are the dog days, not just in the summer! And, we’re not just talking about a walk in the park. Door County welcomes dogs on many of our beaches, at a number of our restaurants and lodging properties, and even on excursions to Washington Island or cruises in Sturgeon Bay.

We’ve done a little digging and have the scoop on how to make the most of your travels in Door County when accompanied by your four-legged companion!

Start your trip planning with pet-friendly lodging. Lodging properties typically like to know in advance if you’re bringing your dog, so it’s always a good idea to mention your four legged friend when you make your reservation. For the comfort of your pet and other guests, it’s not advised to leave your dog in your room when you’re not there. Since dogs are welcome in so many places in Door County, you and your pet won’t miss out on anything.

In almost every community in Door County, restaurants offer outdoor patio dining for you and your pet. Some stops even cater to canines with organic delights just for them. Don’t forget to pick up some local treats!

When it’s time to walk it all off, you may want to check out one or more of the five state parks and 19 county parks that allow pets. Door County also has a number of beaches where your pooch is welcome, including Whitefish Dunes State Park, which has a dedicated pet section of the beach in the summer months, Peninsula State Park at the canoe and kayak launch dock at Tennison Bay, the Lakeside Park Beach in Jacksonport and Frank E. Murphy County Park, just south of Egg Harbor. Park rules require for dogs to be leashed and for any waste to be picked up.

When you come to Door County with your dog, we really do welcome pets “like nowhere else.” For more information on pet-friendly lodging visit DoorCounty.com/where-to-stay/pets-allowed. If dinner for you and your four-legged companion is what you desire, visit DoorCounty.com/where-to-dine/pets for a complete listing of restaurants that welcome Fido with a smile. Last-minute travelers can find lodging now at WisconsinLodging.org/Harley

There is still lodging available in the Milwaukee area during the Harley-Davidson anniversary celebration August 29 – September 3, 2013, and WisconsinLodging.org will help you find it!

The Wisconsin Hotel & Lodging Association has created the only portal that matches up Harley celebration enthusiasts with available lodging up to a two-hour drive from Milwaukee. Available at WisconsinLodging.org/Harley, the portal allows travelers to browse available lodging by distance from the festivities, in 15-minute driving time increments and book directly online or call for reservations. With reservations and cancellations changing availability each week, the page is updated with the most current information each Thursday through August 29. More than 50 properties are currently listed, with a variety of available dates.

“It is critical to get the word out to those considering coming to the Milwaukee area for the Harley celebration that there is still lodging available,” said Trisha Pugal, WH&LA President/CEO. “We hope to connect those travelers with rooms that best fit their needs, whether they stay 15 minutes away or even 2 hours away. We have a beautiful city and state, and are truly looking forward to rolling out the welcome mats for our many Harley friends coming to the area.”
