Each day in Door County are the dog days, not just in the summer! And, we’re not just talking about a walk in the park. Door County welcomes dogs on many of our beaches, at a number of our restaurants and lodging properties, and even on excursions to Washington Island or cruises in Sturgeon Bay.
Start your trip planning with pet-friendly lodging. Lodging properties typically like to know in advance if you’re bringing your dog, so it’s always a good idea to mention your four legged friend when you make your reservation. For the comfort of your pet and other guests, it’s not advised to leave your dog in your room when you’re not there. Since dogs are welcome in so many places in Door County, you and your pet won’t miss out on anything.
In almost every community in Door County, restaurants offer outdoor patio dining for you and your pet. Some stops even cater to canines with organic delights just for them. Don’t forget to pick up some local treats!
When it’s time to walk it all off, you may want to check out one or more of the five state parks and 19 county parks that allow pets. Door County also has a number of beaches where your pooch is welcome, including Whitefish Dunes State Park, which has a dedicated pet section of the beach in the summer months, Peninsula State Park at the canoe and kayak launch dock at Tennison Bay, the Lakeside Park Beach in Jacksonport and Frank E. Murphy County Park, just south of Egg Harbor. Park rules require for dogs to be leashed and for any waste to be picked up.
