Congratulations go out to The Iron Horse Hotel who yesterday received the Boutique Hotel of the Year award from the Boutique & Lifestyle Lodging Association.

According to hotel owner Tim Dixon, “Our hotel has quickly become a diamond in the rough – a property in design much like a NY or LA hotel but delivered with our staff’s famous Midwestern hospitality. Despite our September 2008 opening in the worst economic time for the travel industry, our small Milwaukee hotel has managed to compete at the same level as hotels in the major markets.”

From a “100-year-old warehouse” to a “luxury Milwaukee boutique hotel”, The Iron Horse Hotel is the industry’s first modern boutique hotel geared towards business and leisure travelers along with a growing segment of motorcycle enthusiasts.

We regularly blog about great places to stay in Wisconsin, but don’t just take our word for it! See what others around the web are saying about our members…

Midwest Living lists their pick of 17 Fabulous One-Stop Weekend Escapes here. Four of the 17 are here in Wisconsin – the most from any of the ten states on the list!

Canoe Bay
, Chetek:
Hmmmmmm……. Adults only? Secluded in Wisconsin’s North Woods? “Fresh flowers, baked goods and steaming coffee discreetly delivered each morning“? Canoe Bay/ Relais & Chateaux definitely earns the title of Fabulous!

Delafield Hotel, Delafield:
Located in charming Delafield, less than a half hour west of Milwaukee and only 50 minutes east of Madison, The Delafield Hotel‘s “luxury lodging provides a great base for a weekend getaway”.

Old Rittenhouse Inn, Bayfield:
When your travels take you to Wisconsin’s far north, be sure to check out the “luxurious rooms and suites with up-to-date amenities (minus TVs)” at the Old Rittenhouse Inn.

Sundara Inn & Spa, Wisconsin Dells:
The Midwest Living feature starts with these words: “The real world can’t get past the front gate of Sundara Inn and Spa.” Almost sounds like a challenge until you arrive on the Sundara property and discover the peace in their pine forest…

Also making headlines as a “Mountain Hideaway Right in the Midwest”, is the Percheron Paradise Romantic Hideaway near La Crosse. Describing their chalet  as “immaculately clean and beautifully decorated with a nearly complete wrap around deck and extras such as sparkling apple juice, wine glasses and a candle that were ours to keep“, the author also shares ideas on things to do in the area – if you can be tempted to leave the 200+ acres of quiet seclusion!  Click on over and read the full article here.

Congratulations to the White Gull Inn in Door County for being named America’s Best Breakfast by Good Morning America!

The Inn and its Cherry-Stuffed French Toast was featured on GMA Saturday, May 15, along with two other finalists, and viewers had 12 hours to vote for their favorite on the program’s Web site.Want to try the award-winning recipe at home? Check it out here.

In Presque Isle, WI, the Alpine Resort is garnering some excitement of their own. National Geographic magazine featured the resort in its May/June issue as one of 10 American family resorts made for reconnecting. Of the resort, the article says:

Set in far northern Wisconsin on a pristine lake amid towering white pines, this down-home resort, with its collection of circa 1920s log cabins complete with knotty pine interiors, is a real throwback. These days, owners Kim and Tim Bowler and their ten-year-old daughter, Cameil, host angling lessons off the dock and stargazing around the campfire (look for the northern lights). It can be quiet in the North Woods. “The only sounds you hear in the morning are the loons,” notes Kim. For some, that’s exactly the type of alarm clock they want.
