We head southeast to the Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark in Lake Geneva for the second in our series on Wisconsin’s indoor waterparks & water activity centers.
At 30,000 square feet of indoor fun, Moose Mountain Falls includes two water slides, lazy river, plus activity & splash pools. I certainly wouldn’t let this crisp fall weather keep me inside though – there’s really nothing like watching the stars light up the cool night sky while relaxing in the indoor/ outdoor hot tub!
There’s so much more for families to do in addition to the water park… As a sister property to the Grand Geneva Resort, Timber Ridge guests will also find:
- Indoor climbing wall
- Fitness center
- Nature trails (check to see if their guided nature walks are available too!)
- Horseback riding
- Carriage rides
- Golfing (ask about their golf clinics)
- Kids Are Grand activities & child care
On the Calendar:
Sleepy Hallow Haunted Hayrides – Begins “October 2, open from 7:00 p.m. to Midnight every Friday and Saturday night through October 31. Sunday nights 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.” ($12 adults/ $6 for kids)

Wisconsin Dells IS the Waterpark Capitol of the World(R) & what better way to kick off our new series on Wisconsin’s indoor waterparks & water activity centers than with a property located right ‘on the Strip’ in the Dells?
At 16,000 square feet, the Atlantis’ indoor waterpark may feel small in comparison to others in the Dells, but young families will enjoy its “small scale and the ability to keep a close eye on young children.” With both indoor & outdoor pool areas, the Atlantis includes an indoor waterpark with slides, water splash features and basketball hoops plus a quieter indoor “Lobby Pool”. Parents may also appreciate the poolside bar, open on weekends in the off season.
For the more adventurous, or those with older children, the Atlantis also includes free tickets for Mt. Olympus just a short walk away. New for weekends in October – the Mt. Olympus opens Bitten, its “First ever “Haunted Night at the Theme Park””.
Another ‘don’t miss’ for your fall getaway -and just down the street from the Atlantis- are the Army Duck Tours. Open through October, these original Army Ducks offer daily tours through Dells Glacial Park. (Money Saving Tip: order tickets online & save $3 per person)

Okay, summer’s here and with the days getting longer, it’s getting harder to make excuses for not hauling out my bike for a ride each day. But for those out there who are passionate about their bike riding, Wisconsin offers miles of on-road tours, mountain bike trails and bike touring trails. Click here to order the 7th edition Wisconsin Biking Guide from the Department of Tourism featuring 30 different trails across the state.
One set, the Sugar River State Trail and Badger State Trail meet up then split just outside Monticello in Green County. But these aren’t the only trails in the county. They’re also home to the aptly named Cheese Country Trail which runs through Mineral Point, Darlington and Monroe.
If you’re looking for more than just single day excursions, you may be interested in “vacations on your bike”. Bike tours can be done with groups such as the 32nd annual SAGBRAW ride from August 1-7 or in self-guided tours.
Often consisting of planned routes with maps for your predetermined trip length, self-guided tours may also include lodging along your way and luggage transfers to your overnight destinations. Check out Bike Green County for their “Ultimate Biking Experience”.
These two simple words, when combined together can instill excitement or terror in the hearts of parents everywhere. We want to have fun, discover, relax, reconnect, regroup… Whatever our plans for our Family Vacation, they don’t usually include a trip to the emergency room. But, as every parent knows, kids will be kids – even on vacation!
